In November 2020 my brother and I each invested £5k with one of Bennett Verby’s clients, who I have since discovered are a scam company and the EIS that they promoted was a fraudulent scheme that was perpetuated by Bennett Verby due to them providing EIS certificates and lending credibility to this company that was not even authorised by the FCA to provide the necessary advice required for EIS investors.
I have sent several emails both to Bennett Verby – with no reply. I have even called Bennett Verby several times and been promised a callback – that has never been received.
Although I fully appreciate that GDPR prevents BV from providing the information on their scam client, my last two queries to Bennett Verby were to ask i) who their company is regulated by and ii) if I would be considered an eligible complainant if I logged a complaint with them - the complaint being about Bennett Verby’s apparent lack of due diligence carried out on their scam client whom even the FCA says on their website “..is not authorised by [them] and is targeting people in the UK.”

Again, even though I accept the restrictions of GDPR on disclosing information to me, BV’s total lack of response in relation to the questions above or even any courtesy call to say they could not provide any information and would not consider me an eligible complainant makes me feel, as best, BV isn’t even following its own complaint procedure and at worst, is in some way complicit in this fraud.

This firm came highly recommended and interaction started well. However since August 2022 the service and lack of
communication has been extremely poor from 2 Directors in this firm. I tried to contact multiple times each month via phone, text, email!! I received promises of call backs and responses to emails.. Needless to say I am still waiting and a HMRC penalty has increased.
Maybe it is that they have no interest in supporting individuals with their self assessments (being too small a client), that be the case - you would expect them to have a common courtesy or be professional enough to communicate this.
I would recommend you save yourself a lot of stress, time and energy and find an accountant that actually cares about their clients!
