My only suggestion would be for them to take a more proactive approach in offering alternative solutions. For instance, when I was told that I couldn't file form 2555 with my 2023 return due to it not being filed the previous year, it would have been helpful if the team had recommended amending my 2022 return to include the form. The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE) will have a significant impact on my future filings, and having this kind of problem-solving offered would set them apart from other tax services.

Overall, I highly recommend Expat Tax Online and would encourage anyone looking for a reliable and responsive tax service to consider them.

I read positive reviews about this company so I was excited to work with them on my taxes as a first year US citizen living abroad. I was disappointed with the time it took, communication and overall costs.

I started reaching out to them in February, and my taxes were not complete until August. They shared with me in the beginning that they would be able to complete the taxes on time for a set fee. In April I checked in with them and they said they would be applying for a free extension, no charge to me. It was to my surprise when I went to submit my taxes in August that I was charged by the IRS for 2 different late fees. I was not made aware of this by their team and they did not respond to me when I asked for reimbursement on this.

If you have equity in a company while working abroad - use caution with this company. They reviewed my tax situation in the beginning, and did not share with me until the taxes were almost due that I would need to pay extra to file my RSUs. They tried to charge me extra for each transaction for the year, totalling over 1k in fees. When I asked the reason for this, they explained it was because of time it took for their team to reconcile and file this, and the fee would be for them and not to the IRS. I filed my own last year and it took me 10 minutes so there was no valid reasoning for this. When I had questions on it, they were not able to explain clearly.

Once I filed the final tax packet, I never heard from them again. I am still left in the dark if my taxes went through properly or if there were any issues with it. I wouldn't recommend this company to expats and won't be using them again.

My brother recommended Expat Tax Online to me because I needed to get caught up on years of taxes. I worked with Andrea Miguel and she made the process super easy for me. She was extremely patient as it took me some time to find certain information and get back to her. She was always available to answer questions and clarified anything I was confused about. I plan on using them again next tax season. As an expat, it has been such a relief to have my taxes dealt with as I would have idea how to tackle this on my own.
