I had an extremely disappointing experience with EAFMS, specifically with mediator Alex Smillie. While mediation is supposed to be a neutral and constructive process, I found the handling of my case to be inconsistent, dismissive, and lacking in transparency.

Despite initially engaging in mediation, Alex appeared to favor the other party, making statements that seemed to advocate for their position rather than maintaining impartiality. When I attempted to seek further mediation to resolve key issues regarding my child’s welfare, I was met with delays, lack of communication, and ultimately, a vague refusal to proceed—without any clear explanation.

Even after multiple requests, Alex refused to provide formal confirmation of mediation closure beyond the standard C100 form, which raises concerns about the professionalism and accountability of the service. Rather than fostering dialogue, her responses became increasingly dismissive, stating that she did not have to explain decisions—contradicting the fundamental principles of mediation, which require transparency and good faith engagement.

Mediation should be a fair and impartial process that prioritizes the well-being of the child. Unfortunately, my experience with EAFMS and Alex Smillie has left me questioning their ability to deliver a genuinely neutral service. I would not recommend this mediation service to any parent seeking a balanced and professional approach to resolving family matters.
