I was recommended by a friend and instructed Johnny Lung at Small Design Studio as my architect for a full refurbishment of a 5 bedroom house in Clapham London. From the very start Johnny was absolutely brilliant to work with. He was so knowledgeable, had great ideas but also very much encouraged mine. He is such a pleasant, gentle and polite fellow and made the whole process enjoyable despite some difficult situations with an obstructive neighbour. He drew superb plans and provided comprehensive weekly site reports/updates and a photographic record and went over and above his remit when the builders failed to complete the works on time. He did a lot of the difficult jobs calling out the builder over mistakes and fielded me from issues that he could sort out without worrying me. Johnny is one of the nicest people you could ever work with and is talented and innovative. I am absolutely thrilled with every part of his design and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a truly professional architect.

Johnny Lung was our architect for a kitchen extension and ground floor refurb we did in 2019. We found working with him was a very positive experience and we feel we got exactly what we wanted (which wasn't exactly what we thought we wanted when we started the process - I think that's one of the qualities a good architect brings to the table) for an overall investment that remained within our budget. From a budget perspective, there were some things that we needed to compromise on, but Johnny was very effective at helping us end up with something that we were happy with.

From the build perspective, he advised us to go down a negotiated tender route with a local builder that he had worked with before. This worked really well for us - it gave us transparency and control around the budget and the process and he worked well with the builders throughout the process.

Our refurb can be seen on Johnny's website - we're genuinely delighted with the outcome and we have recommended him to friends.

We worked with Small Design Studio in 2020 when we did a big renovation of our house in Balham/London. I was particularly pleased with the way Johnny Lung guided us through the whole process, setting expectations, listening to our own ideas and preferences, and presenting us with options. He connected us with different providers/vendors/contractors (kitchen, bathroom fittings, builders, carpets etc), which was very helpful too. Finally, he was very diligent managing/supervising the work of the builder. My wife and I were very happy with the result, and the whole project landed largely within budget. Worth mentioning that all of that happened during the early days of Covid, so it was extra complicated!
