I cannot speak highly enough of the care and professionalism demonstrated by family practice throughout the autism assessment process. From the very first interaction, the team made us feel welcome and supported. They took the time to explain every step clearly, ensuring we understood what to expect and answering all our questions with patience and compassion.

The assessment itself was thorough yet handled with such kindness and respect for my child. The team showed genuine empathy and an evident depth of expertise, making the entire process smooth and far less intimidating than we had anticipated. They went out of their way to create a calm and accommodating environment, which made a huge difference.

I would wholeheartedly recommend family practice to anyone seeking an autism assessment. Their professionalism, warmth, and dedication make them truly exceptional. Thank you for the positive impact you’ve made on our family!

We used The Family Practice Group for my son’s assessment of ASD. The practice was amazingly supportive from start to finish. The consultation was very clear and I knew my son was in safe hands. The diagnostic report was very detailed and helpful. I cannot thank the practice enough for their service which in my opinion is 10/10.

It is an emotional and stressful time when as a parent you are worrying about your child and getting an assessment. The care, professionalism and support I received were amazing ! I highly recommend The Family Practice Group.

If you are a woman and suspect you have autism but mask a lot DO NOT GO HERE. I felt completely invalidated, and even though during the appointment my mum had to discuss traits I had as a child where the psychologist said "how did you not know she has autism", they later said that I did not meet the criteria because of the ados 2 meeting. I've been masking for years so making eye contact and being able to have a conversation with the psychologist should not be a reason for my daily struggles to get dismissed. I was told my presentation was more in line with ADHD, but it is very common for people to have both autism and adhd. Not to mention, autism presents differently in women!! We are not a steriotype, anyway have since got another assessment and finally have reasonable accommodations, but the appointment with this group set me back and wasted time where I could have got help I desperately needed. Not to mention I have ARFID which they knew about and autism and ARFID often go hand in hand. Their interpretation of me left me upset and confused. And it's taken a long time to get over how this group made me feel. It seems like it's all money making to them, and they don't really consider the whole individual. Would not recommend to anyone with an a typical presentation of autism.

A very positive experience with the Family Practice Group! The whole team (admin and clinical) were kind and professional and the face to face session was thorough and completed with such a caring approach. The report was really comprehensive and truly reflective. Being heard is so important and the psychologists really took time to listen and understand, particularly when discussing masking and overwhelm. They are all extremely experienced and highly trained in Autism Spectrum (in both males and females of all ages) as well as many other conditions which have overlaps with Autism Spectrum and can be easily confused. This is great to know as I hadn’t realised before that so many conditions can be misdiagnosed as Autism Spectrum or vice versa and being informed that they often provide second opinions was a huge comfort! Time taken to explore all possibilities is just invaluable. Being a person who was apprehensive about a private assessment due to hearing stories about ‘paying’ for a diagnosis – it was great to know this would not be the case. Being also concerned whether a private diagnosis may not be accepted, it was a relief to know that their reports are fully accepted. Overall a brilliant experience.

My experience at Family Practice Group has been extremely positive from start to finish. We sought specialists who fully understood the complexities of masking in a school-attending female teen. The entire team were professional, patient, and extremely kind and caring. We were never rushed and were given the time we needed to feel heard and understood. The booking process was efficient and appointments were offered to suit our needs. Feedback was also very quick and extremely thorough. I highly recommend this practice for their professionalism, expertise and knowledge, and compassionate patient care. Thank you all so much.

Felt unheard and invalidated. EMDR was mentioned during the assesment and in my report despite having no obvious signs of PTSD. One of the assessments was scored incorrectly as moderate when it was clearly severe. I'd steer clear if you mask at all.

Update

I've now been assessed by another organisation, Berkshire Psychologists after seeking a second opinion and have been given a diagnosis of autism and adhd. This was decided by a team of psychologists rather than being just one person's opinion. They took more time and were more curious, asked more questions and seemed so much more diligent. I saw two different people during the process and spent over 4 hours with them, much longer than with the FPG. I am so glad I got a 2nd opinion despite the costs.

A very disappointing experience

My daughter also received her diagnosis of autism today having also been let down by the Family Practice group too.

An expensive mistake for both of us.
Avoid!

I would highly recommend Family Practice Group. The assessment and report process is conducted in a thorough and highly professional manner and the assessment adheres to NICE guidance. The detail and quality of the final reports are exemplary and have been accepted by other professionals who we are working with. I had been concerned that my daughter would not attend the face to face assessment because she is so anxious. Katherine was excellent at putting our daughter at ease and she was happy to be assessed by Katherine.

We contacted the family practice group to arrange an assessment for our 12 year old boy who we suspected may be ASD. From beginning to end we found the practice professional and kind, particularly with our son who we thought would not want to enter the room with the psychologist as he doesn't feel happy to talk with strangers or speak about things that may be troubling him because of his anxiety.
Today we have received the report which we are reading through now and will be meeting with the psychologist again to discuss everything.
At this moment in time we could not be happier with the service we have received very professional throughout, and we are very happy that we choose this practice to assess our son.
