Received a quote from SVTech for £322 to up plate a motorhome back to its original revenue weight (the previous owner had down plated it via SVTech 18 months previously at a cost of around £140). We replied to the quote to enquire if there was a misunderstanding about what we were asking them to quote for and explained the history of the recent down plating but received no further response from SVTech.

Enquired directly with the DVSA who advised we simply needed to remove the recent up plate sticker and inform the DVLA about the new (original) revenue weight.

Filled in Section 1 of the V5 and form V70 (available on DVLA website) and posted these to the DVLA with a letter explaining we were restoring the van to the original revenue weight and included a photo of the old and new weight plates.

We have received in the post a new V5 with the up plated revenue weight and a refund on the difference in road tax from the date of change.

This process will not be suitable for everyone, but for restoring a motorhome, which has previously been down plated, back to its original revenue weight, it is considerably cheaper than the £322 quoted by SV Tech. It simply cost the tracked postage to the DVLA.

Excellent service, we needed to up plate our motorhome and rear axel, they saved me £800 by recommending Glide Rite for air assist on the rear of van, as we had torsion bars. easy to deal with, they are very busy so be patient awaiting response. They advised dvla are 4-5 weeks behind with post, we sent ours off 20 December and V5 came back 15 Dec. Many thanks.
