I popped in this morning to get a quote for my business accounting, and what a delightful experience it was! The gentleman I spoke with—presumably the owner—left me standing awkwardly at the front door, as though I were trying to sell him double glazing. There was no invitation to come in and talk properly; instead, he informed me, with the enthusiasm of someone discussing dental surgery, that they were "on the expensive side" and doubted they could beat my current accountant's costs. This insightful analysis was provided before I’d even had the chance to explain what I needed.

He kindly suggested I stick with my current accountant and perhaps buy her a bottle of wine for Christmas. A lovely sentiment, except I came to him for a professional service, not festive shopping tips. His dismissive tone and general air of "why are you even here?" left me feeling as welcome as a wasp at a picnic.

As a potential client, I was hoping for a little interest in my business needs—perhaps a question or two, maybe even a vague attempt to demonstrate their expertise. Instead, I left feeling like I’d committed some great faux pas by daring to darken their door.

My advice? If you’re looking for an accountant who makes you feel valued, perhaps give this place a miss. But if you're in the market for a masterclass in how not to attract clients, this could be just the ticket. Oh, and to the gentleman in question: perhaps brush up on customer service—you might even find it’s a worthwhile investment.

Andrew and Jo are not only friendly and courteous they are also professional, quick and efficient. They went out of their way to help me. Andrew even called my bank in Switzerland and spoke to the relevant managers. Andrew also had to learn about the different tax laws in the countries I lived in to be able to sort them out with the Inland Revenue. I have moved to the other end of the UK and I had to take an accountant just nearby. I know perfectly that I will never find such a high level of professionalism and dedication, it just happens once and did not happen with the other accountants that I had around the globe for the past 33 years.
