We had a terrible experience with this letting agency, the rental property (Marque House) and the company that manages the building (Encore). We moved in during COVID and the viewing was done via FaceTime. When we moved in the flat was dirty, carpets were disgusting (which of course was not shown on the video call). We asked for the carpets to be replaced, I have sent them multiple emails. Apparently, there was no response from the landlord. The carpets never got replaced. We repeatedly complained about the water pressure in the flat only to be told “it’s just the way the building is set up”. Eventually, we had to move out because the landlord decided to sell the flat. We left the flat spotless and clean, we got charged £50 for a light bulb that went out (ridiculous). After the flat got sold, they reached out asking if the water pressure has always been so low because whoever bought the property was asking. So, I ended up forwarding all the emails where we complained about it (including videos/photos). Also, good luck trying to get your deposit back. Once again I had to sent multiple emails requesting to return our deposit and provide final water bill. We moved out in July 2023, we never received the final water bill. After weeks of emailing, we asked them to calculate the water bill based on previous billing period, keep that amount and give us rest of the deposit back. Bidwells kept saying that the water bill issue was due to Encore not providing the bill (some sort of internal thing within Encore). This is just a small portion of the issues we had experienced with Bidwells. I highly suggest you stay away from this letting agency, renting at Marque House and/or dealing with Encore.

First review in years but I feel it’s needed. Landlords avoid this estate agent if you are trying to rent out your property. I have been trying to book a viewing at a property for over a week to no avail. Property manager has other properties to deal with I’m being told, no return call after multiple attempts to book a viewing, either understaffed, bad management or both. Landlords avoid.

Don't believe a word they say.
The agents were always short and rude on the phone, and their clear motivation is to lie to potential buyers to hike up the price as much as possible.
In contrast we had great experiences with other estate agents in the local area.

Bidwells is without a doubt, one of, if not the most professional letting agents in the Cambridge area. Moving from overseas on a tight schedule, they were prompt, clear, and professional in their communication- including scheduling a FaceTime viewing that provided much needed clarity for moving forward with the property. Having rented with them for a year, I have not had any issues and all maintenance requests have been handled promptly and adequately. I'll without hesitation, recommend Bidwells (and their amazing team) for anyone looking for a hassle-free, transparent and just generally pleasant renting experience in Cambridge.

I’m going back a few years now, but Bidwells were initially faultless on my rental. A while down the road I personally ran into problems, in the household. My previous partner was willing to go against my opinions and sub let and various activities. I was subject to a huge amount of mental strain and anguish. Love blinded, tried what I thought was my best. Towards the end I decided to vocalise my problems about the letting agreement as I was clearly a victim in the situation and we would stand to be evicted.. so I thought I did the right thing. Get this sub letter out of our house. even told this company of my issues. The lady I believe was called Ros. She literally wiped the slate clean with me, I took the agreement out myself and provided the whole deposit. Was assured it would come back to the account it came from. Long story short, the agreement was shredded, my name was washed off the table and the sub letter took my place. I lost everything, some of my person belongings, most was left in the hands of a “friend” of theirs for me to organise with. Lost all my rights. Couldn’t even sell my at the time 4year old Sons climbing frame as I wasn’t allowed on the site. I spent 6months battling mental demons, spoke to legal professions, but this company being so big I knew they’d drown me. To be honest, I lost a lot, so I had little to no money to fight with. I was refused my deposit money, told if it’s not claimed it’ll be given to charity. I wanted the whole back, but they’d placed her in position they meant I now had to split the 1200 with her. But she stayed at the house, nothing changed for them. Honestly, I don’t care anymore, but this was well above legal. I’ve rented many properties. I know what went on was not legal. A sad, bitter, mentally abusive breakup which I wasn’t strong enough to fight had this company get involved and “take sides”. Honestly, looking back on it.. they got tied up in a mental health affair between 2 people and should have dealt with it in a professional way, treat us both the same. If necessary, we should have all moved out. But they struggled with renting as on a farm and location was far from the best, but we loved it. I’m a different guy now and life paid me back but I hope one day, if these people still trade and act this way, they deserve nothing but the full force of the law and I wish I had the money to sue. Absolute embarrassment on them. To think they supported such a horrid person that brought a man down to questioning “what’s the point”. My Son saved me, I kept my head high for him. Corporate money hungry Mongrels that just do not care! They certainly didn’t back then.

I asked six estate agents on Thursday / Friday for Saturday viewings of properties on sale. Three didn’t respond. Two responded but couldn’t offer any viewings. Bidwells arranged 4 viewings at short notice. These were conducted by experienced and helpful staff, who highlighted the good points of the properties. Not surprisingly, 2 of these 4 properties went under offer on Monday. It seems to me that Bidwells does the best for its sellers by being responsive to the needs of the buyers. Other things being equal, e.g. fees, it is the agent that I would use if I were to sell a property in Cambridge.
