Communication was quick and easy but I was disappointed to find out that they don’t offer CIS on rates less than £20 an hour. That effectively forces tradesmen like myself into an unfavourable position with regards to paying tax via PAYE. They’ll still charge you £20 a week to pay you though so they’ve got you both ways. I became self-employed for the benefit of being in charge of my own tax, not for the benefit of paying another company’s tax and charges then having the joy of explaining that to HMRC when they then send me a bill for it all at the end of the year. I had no choice but to decline the job offer in the end which is a shame because I have previous experience and was willing to work long nightshifts, plus the client was happy to take me.
