It was closed. Yes, on arrival most of the tourist traps of cheese, cider and fluffy toys were open, but the caves were closed.
Then to cap it all, there are two parking charges, 9:00am to 9:00pm £6. Or 3pm to 9pm, £4. Toilets had seen better days, think local council are taking the perverbial! However, had a pleasant walk around, saw some goats, lots of rushing water, very friendly staff in shops.

A truly incredible place! The journey down the gorge to the village is stunning. Shear cliffs towering upwards with goats grazing on the scrub. The caves are breathtaking, steeped in history. A first class experience. Highly recommended!

Caves that are well cared for, accessible and breathtaking. Cheddar itself is a lovely town even on a rainy day and the caves provide good shelter and activity for a few hours. The walk/climb up Jacobs Ladder is tough but worth it if you can manage. Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

Nice place. Plenty of car parking places. Public toilets there. You can park by the road as well for some extra cost £6. We had a lovely walk. Beautiful small town centre. Plenty of beautiful shops there. We tried cheddar cheese, it was really tasty. A little bit busy and a bit hard to find car parking space but go up to the hill there is still some more parking.

Had a great half day here. Paid £24 per person to see the 2 caves, cheddar movie, museum and Jacobs ladder and tower and really enjoyed it

Fantastic experience walking through these amazing caves. It was very quiet on the day we visited, and we we felt like we were the only people in there. Beautifully lit, the commentary was very informative and the guide at the very back of the caves gave us some more information.

Beautiful gorge, we arrived early as it is extremely busy. Shois, pubs, scenery, caves, what more do you need. Parking near the top is free, lower down £6 9am - 9pm.

It was only my intention to drive through the gorge but cheddar is such a lovely place we stopped and took a stroll through..
Visited the original cheddar shop bought a gift or two and walked back to the car..
As I said cheddar is a beautiful place and the gorge is absolutely a stunning piece of nature..
Unfortunately due to my wife's mobility issues we were unable to visit the caves or walk the trails..
But after visiting i would definitely say it is something to try if you can..
Looks amazing.. looked like it's a very popular attraction and finding a car parking space can be difficult at times.. lots of small parking lots dotted along the route
