Dominic and his team have recently finished thatching our house in Rushmere St Andrew and we are thrilled with the result. From start to finish he and his team have been a pleasure to work with. The skill and detail involved has been so interesting to watch, together with most of the village it seems. We would definitely recommend.

After part of our Grade II listed property’s thatched roof collapsed in late summer of 2019, we realised we could not put off having a re-thatch any longer. Having seen the beautiful re-thatch on Benhall school, that on a barn conversion in Middleton village, and the ridge of the Middleton Bell, we decided to contact the thatcher responsible, Dominic Meek.
When he visited, we discussed the work involved and felt confident his was the company we should choose. He said he would not be able to start work until the end of summer 2020 but would make a temporary repair in the meantime. Due to the coronavirus pandemic he had some postponements of work and was able to start our thatch this spring as ours was a large double roof which would allow the thatchers to socially distance easily while working.
When the old thatch was removed, several complications were found resulting from old thatching work. The chimney had been poorly reduced in size many years ago, its brickwork was loose and many of the roof timbers had rotted or were in poor condition and needed to be replaced. All this work was carried out expertly without any problem.
All the thatchers were polite, friendly, very helpful, extremely skilful and willing to go the extra mile to ensure the very highest quality and look of the finished Thatch.
To be able to watch such artists at work was a privilege and fascinating. We are extremely pleased with the beautiful roof we now have and impressed by how clean and tidy the surrounding area was left when they had finished. We would not hesitate to recommend them.

Dominic and his team of thatchers undertook a complete rethatch of our cottage over a period of five weeks and were excellent from start to finish. They worked extremely hard and diligently, exhibiting exceptional skill and attention to detail. Throughout the rethatch they explained the process to us and consulted us on options available, such as installing a fireproof membrane and the design of the ridge. All of the team are friendly and helpful, and made a considerable effort to minimize disruption to our neighbours.
