Selling a house is a stressful enough period in anyone’s life, without the added factor of marital breakdown and health concerns. Luke acted faultlessly with our best interest at all times, With many estate agents having a reputation as ‘glossy & over-sincere sales people’ - Luke showed genuine compassion, integrity along with humour at much needed moments. His knowledge of the industry and advice was spot on and greatly appreciated, and he even offered advice and guidance when finding another property going forward.

Communication was professional at all times, with regular and honest updates and with the reputation of HJ Burt being an established and reputable, well respected local estate agent within the West Sussex area, I would not hesitate on recommending either Luke or HJ Burt in the future. We rented from HJ Burt, Steyning for two and a half years and found them excellent.

Julie was professional and accurate and also warm and welcoming when showing the property and arranging all the legal paperwork.

David Kiley was our property manager and was very nice to deal with. He related with the owners and sorted out contractors when anything went wrong and also kept us up to date with boiler checks etc. We felt very well looked after. Thank you.

We used this company throughout a 7 month period as we required emergency accommodation. The tenancy went smoothly right up until the very end. We left a £1,700 deposit at the beginning of the tenancy and, once we had deep cleaned the property, were given a £1,100 deduction from our deposit, leaving us with only £600. Some of these deductions were justified, however, we were charged £75 for a new hoover despite only using the existing one once. The hoover was awful to begin with. We were also charged a significant amount to fix an already very flimsy bed frame. The bed frame broke several times during the tenancy, which we informed the landlord of, and fixed ourselves. Despite this, we were charged extra for this. We were also charged for leaving rubbish bins outside the property, despite the fact that throughout the entire tenancy, actual bins were never provided. We simply had to leave our rubbish at the front of the property every single week. We did this at the end of the tenancy also, but were charge extra for waste removal. We were charged for a few other small things that were unjustified in our view.

Additionally, we were charged several hundred pounds for a property deep clean, despite spending an entire day deep cleaning the property ourselves. The estate agency hired a very expensive cleaning company and went ahead with the clean without our prior knowledge. We were only presented with an invoice after the fact.

I believe that this estate agency was doing everything in their power to obtain as much money from us as possible towards the end of the tenancy, which is unfortunate. They were very pushy towards the end when it came to these reductions being approved. We definitely felt pressured to accept the deductions despite some being unjustified.

On a final note, we actually went to view. property to purchase with HJ Burt as well. During the viewing, it appeared that the estate agent knew nothing about the property. She even stated that she had never seen it before, which came as a surprise to us. It wasn’t a very professional viewing, to say the least. This was, however, a very minor thing to note.

Overall, we were pleased with the service that HJ Burt provided during the majority of our tenancy. We were just very disappointed at the end, and felt like we were being taken advantage of financially.

We worked with Jeremy Whittingham at H. J Burt in Steyning to sell our property in Upper Beeding: Jeremy was amazing from start to finish as were the other members of the team in Steyning. Jeremy sold our property twice, both times in less than a week after listing. Unfortunately our purchase fell through the first time and we had to let our initial buyers down: Jeremy dealt with that awful situation and provided support for all concerned, he is efficient, focussed, extremely knowledgeable and patient, as he had to be with us over the course of our shared experience. I don't know what we would have done without him, he was brilliant. We wish he covered the area we have moved to for future sales!

I wanted to share my sincere thanks to HJ Burt's for the exceptional help and support they have given my family this year. After my mother moved into care, we had to let her house to help pay the monthly home fees. David, Julie and the team gave invaluable advice, helped source lovely tenants and then over the course of a year managed the whole tenancy with the utmost professionalism allowing us to focus on my Mothers care. Nothing was too much trouble, the contractors they used were excellent and I could not have managed this without their help, support and leadership.
