Very disappointing!

Matthew was great at the beginning. Very friendly; and still to be fair - A polite guy. However, he has caused absolute havoc with my accounts, and caused my business to be crippled with massive fines and consequences, instead of helping it grow as an accountant should do.

Matthew Hayne, the owner of Hayne Associates over a period of around 3 years never properly submitted my accounts, and as his address was my registered business address he received all the warning letters and fines, but never informed me or passed them on.

I actually only found this out because I switched accountants to help expand, and I found it odd that after running my business well, I couldn’t for some reason obtain credit for a phone contract?

This was because Matthew never submitted my accounts properly, or my cooperation tax so I was constantly being fined and penalised without my knowledge.

I only actually found this out because when I swapped accountants, I registered the address as my own work one, and started receiving all of these letters about fines going back years !

My new accountants had said Matthew didn’t hand over all the required accounts so they couldn’t proceed with submitting my VAT on time, and because of his unprofessionalism, I then again got fined for not submitting my VAT on time.

When I spoke to Matthew, he said he didn’t hand over the files as I owed him money from the accounting work he had previously done, and I mentioned the corporation tax issue, hence not paying him. He said he did file my corporation tax and it was a mistake on their end. Promised to resolve it immediately as it would take half hour. Then he would get the rest of the accounts over to my new accountants. I said once he’d done that, I’d pay the balance of his invoices and all would be well.

Since then, he’s come up with excuse after excuse, and I’m still stuck with it, not being able to move forward and pay an extortionate amount of fines totalling around £9,000.00 for a bill that should have been around £1,200.00 max !

After nearly a year of this, he doesn’t answer the phone, emails, or texts anymore and has just let me with it. Hence the review, maybe he will reply now !
