Very bad experience with HEF,

Myself and my wife choose HEF for two purposes. For conveyancing and divorce. We agreed that my wife would sign to be the client of HEF, for reasons which they presented, argued, they could not represent us both at least in relation to the divorce. However, we were paying the costs equally, so as far as im concerned, as i was also paying their bills, thus making me an unrepresented client.
We were not in dispute with each other and had no conflict, were amiable, and just decided to go our own way.
The conveyancing of our house proved to be not great, very slow, poor communication, lots of from them ‘we are waiting for the other side ’, when the evidence suggested everyone was waiting for them ( both the agent and the other parties lawyers agreed they was not getting back to them as promised) and I would not recommend them or use them again.

The second purpose was far worse. We had decided to divorce. There was no conflict and as amiable as could be hoped for. We had agreed on our settlement, which was very simple , settled, and just wanted help raising and lodging the paperwork. This we were advised should be an hour or two's work, maybe £500.00.
The family solicitor Joanne Oldman at HEF immediately separated us by saying she could only represent one party ( this we found out later is not the case and a one lawyer two client service is widely available and promoted by the family courts when there is a no conflict case ). This led to conflicting advice to my wife from them, that I would need to pay indemnity and give an undertaking to the court, which were completely unnecessary. We took advice from a third-party lawyer who agreed this was not at all necessary and over the top. The end result was we ended up spending thousands of pounds for nothing, and the only beneficiary I could see was HEF. I would call that unethical and unscrupulous. This was a very unpleasant experience. I found her demeanour, belligerent, obnoxious, and unprofessional. I would advise that unless you are looking for this type of service to look elsewhere.

From the first phone call to the last document signed of my divorce - I couldn't have had better Solicitors! Vicki (paralegal) was always so polite & helpful, would always put a very nervous me at ease. Nick (solicitor) was great & with his dry sense of humour & confidence, he too put me at ease.
If you are looking for a divorce solicitor, i suggest don't go anywhere other than these guys.

Doug who took me through everything was an absolute blessing during the purchase of my first house. When he reported back to me, there were all too many times where both myself (and peers) repeated how grateful we were to have him working for us and with such a keen interest for us too. He was the one during the whole process that I felt I could truly count on for unbiased, well informed advice (which, as a naive first time buyer happened frequently and was much appreciated being taken “under his wing” through the process!!).
