I pre ordered a chicken for Christmas and was quoted £20-£25, i felt like this was already quite expensive but when i came to collect on Christmas eve i was shocked with a £43 price tag. I have paid because the alternative was no Christmas dinner but i am very unhappy about being extorted. No wonder the supermarkets are taking all of their business.

They wrote down the price and my phone number so they could remind me to collect but they didn’t think to tell me the price had doubled, very unfair. I will not be back

I normally shop at another butchers, but I won a voucher for John Mays in a school raffle so we used the voucher to buy our roast joint and a one of their steak pies. I think my usual butcher will have some competition now. The roast pork was absolutely lovely. I asked for a joint with a good bit of crackling and they did not disappoint. The moment I took the joint out of the oven I could see the crackling was going to be perfect. As I dished it up, both my partner and our daughter were quick to get their hands in there and try the pork and crackling. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their roast. We have decided we will be buying all pork roasts from there from now on. We may even be tempted to get all of our meat from there from now on. The pie was also delicious, we were told they bake different flavours so we will be back to try a chicken one next hopefully. Top service and top quality food. Would 100% recommend John Mays.

Just popped in for a few bits. Amazing quality. Steak.bacon.eggs pickled onions. Pork pie and sausages. Not expensive at all for the quality

Bought 2 pasties from John Mays.Being from London it was nice to think that I was buying the real deal from a quality butchers, or at least better quality than Greggs. I was mistaken. The steak slice was gigantic to look at bu once opened it consisted of 2 small chunks of beef. What seemed like 3 whole fried onions and zero gravy. Will I be returning? No

We travelled from Essex Romford, stayed in South Molton for a break away. I got to say one of the best high quality meat butcher's around. Eveytime we brought meat it was fresh snd clean. Also the staff were very kind and friendly.

I visited this butchers shop in the hope to get a nice joint of top rib for our Sunday roast for around £20-£25 (as I have from a different butchers before). When I walked in there was a man already serving someone so whilst waiting I had a look at the joints on show. I wasn't keen on them so when it was my turn to be served I asked for a joint of top rib and said I wanted to pay £20-£25 for it. I was all set to walk out as he didn't have what I wanted but then he said he would go and look out the back for one for me! When he came back he quickly held up a joint and said if I bone and roll this will this be big enough?! I said yes knowing he had my price I wanted to pay in mind!?! It probably took about 5 minutes for him to bone and roll the joint so when he put it on the scales and said £35 I almost felt like I HAD to have it and did. I can honestly say that this was the WORST joint we have ever had, it must have had £10 of fat on it!! It was so light in colour and flavourless that it could have been pork for all I know!!! I will NEVER EVER use this butchers again, and would never recommend.
