I am writing this review having recently left KRS after working there for 6 months. It is necessary to give an initial overview as to why I joined the business, and in turn why I left, so that I can effectively contextualise my comments.

Like most graduates, I left university with a degree but without the faintest idea of what I wanted to do with my career. The opportunity to apply for KRS then arose after their internal recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn, and I thought that it would be a good idea to give it a go even though I was not fully convinced about recruitment as a career option. At the very least, it felt like an astute financial decision given the lucrative potential of the Life Sciences market (which is/was especially pertinent in a toilsome economic climate).

My seniors at the business understood that I was not a ‘natural’ recruiter by any means, but they were extremely prepared to mould a recruiter from the tools that I did have. In so doing, they made a tremendous effort over the past 6 months to address my phone skills, market knowledge as well as my management of candidates throughout their interview processes. This was achieved with regular 1-1 meetings, training sessions and impromptu, ad-hoc requests – there was always somebody on hand to help with anything that I needed. Such a collaborative, supportive environment was not at all what I expected from a recruitment firm – an industry infamous for its ‘salesy’, cut-throat nature – and it is absolutely something that kept me at KRS for some time once I realised that recruitment was not really for me. I did not make a deal in my time here, and yet my directors offered nothing but support right to the very end (as opposed to motivations based on fear or threats that I suspect are commonplace).

Overall, I believe that KRS’ working environment provides a fantastic backdrop to encourage a learning, committed recruiter to flourish. Senior leadership are more than happy to invest a substantial amount of their time and resources into your development. Whilst I was not personally suited to the role, I have still developed skills that I will retain for the rest of my career – I can only imagine how much more successful a suitable person could be.
