If you need knee replacement surgery and want the least possible pain and downtime, I thoroughly recommend James Lewis and the Conformis bespoke joint.

James prioritises the limitation of swelling and pain and his signature '"tourniquet-free, hammer-free" surgical method has given me results I can only describe as spectacular. He is an exceptionally skilled surgeon with a carefully developed protocol of surgical and recovery treatment. The custom implant has very high patient satisfaction ratings, needs minimal bone removal and feels totally natural.

I was back at my desk a week after surgery, driving after two and back at dance class (circumspectly) by week three. Everyone has been amazed at my recovery and the flexibility of the joint, which has felt like my own knee from day one. The prescribed meds and recommended icing machine have kept me pain-free. At three weeks post-surgery I am coping on OTC painkillers and have a range of movement from straight to 140.

Although I am several hours drive away from Goring, James accepted me as a patient and everything was arranged to minimise the travel required, using online consultations and a local x-ray department for the scans. He is always available to answer concerns, and I have the utmost confidence in him and his methods.

It’s now over a year since my last Conformis knee replacement by James Lewis and over 8 years since my other knee was replaced. Both are still performing really well and my experiences with both surgeries were very positive. I have recommended James to several friends. The whole process is virtually painless and the recovery time was very fast. A matter of a couple of weeks before getting around very well including driving (admittedly an automatic). Can’t recommend James Lewis enough. Do make use of the cooling methods recommended as it makes a big difference and is something to look forward to! Also, stick religiously to the exercise regime as it pays dividends.

I had a hip replacement at Goring Hall Hospital less than two weeks ago. I had been suffering with leg pain for over 6 years. I was referred for an X.Ray and I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my right hip and moderate osteoarthritis in my left hip. There was no other option other than a hip replacement for my right hip. My life had been hold for so long and the pain was virtually constant, I could not wait for another 18 months to 2 years on the NHS waiting list. I had no other choice but to go privately and after some research I chose Goring Hall Hospital and Mr James Lewis. From my first contact with Mr Lewis and his detailed explanation of the procedure for minimally invasive hip replacement I felt reassured and confident. It is now only 11 days since my operation and from day 1 I have been mobile and with minimal pain. I can now walk without a stick or crutches inside but when I am outside on my walks I will keep one crutch with me for safety. I have a little discomfort overnight but during the day I am virtually pain free. I cannot recommend Mr Lewis or the wonderful and friendly staff at Goring Hall Hospital enough for giving me my life back. Thank you all.

My consultation with James Lewis was like a breath of fresh air. I had wanted a second opinion on my painful left knee having felt I was being somewhat dismissed during my first consultation. James was recommended to me via a friend and his calm and collected manor immediately put me at ease. His knowledge and professionalism are second to none. What is most important though is that he seemed to genuinely care about providing the most suitable remedy for my afflicted knee. He left no stone unturned regarding all the information he provided on the procedure and I felt in very safe hands on the day with him and his team. They all acted efficiently and effectively before , during and after the operation. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering having knee surgery.

I had a conformis right knee 2 weeks ago performed by Mr Lewis. What a difference. I'm so pleased. It's made such a difference and I'll be walking distances very soon. I've been off the walking sticks since day 5 so I'm very optimistic. Mr Lewis has been available for contact throughout the experience but does give you an information packed booklet which answers all questions that might arise post op. An excellent surgeon with an excellent information method from the first enquiry to the final sign off appointment. Definitely recommend.

Mr Lewis replaced the whole knee joint on my right leg with the Conformis Custom Total Knee Replacement system on 16th May 2018. It is 6 x weeks today and I am walking normally, mostly without a stick and I feel the improvements every day. He had previously fully explained the procedure and what I should expect afterwards and so far that has been what has happened, I have got full movement of my knee from straight to fully bent, still working on leg strength. The scar is hardly visible.
I am so pleased that I found Mr Lewis on an Internet search and will be recommending him to anyone who asks, I may have to have my left knee done sometime soon and will have absolutely no qualms at all about Mr Lewis doing it, in fact I would be very disappointed if he doesn't.
