I am a sole trader, running a copywriting business with a team of freelance writers. After years of struggling with my Self Assessment Tax Return, this time I finally decided to use the services of an accountant. What a pleasant and painless experience it was … for the first time ever!

Mike was incredibly helpful from beginning to end. He took time to explain things to me that I hadn’t fully understood before, came to my house to go through my spreadsheets with me, and showed me how to use Hubdoc to upload receipts for expenses. I realised that there were things I hadn’t claimed for in the past to which I am entitled, and he helped me to work out trickier amounts like usage of home broadband and mobile phone.

Mike was also incredibly patient when I didn’t do things as quickly as I meant to do them. He did nudge me gently but achieved that perfect balance where I felt reminded but not hassled. When everything was done and dusted, he submitted my return on my behalf, after breaking the news that the taxman wanted more money than I expected! (That blinking payment on account malarkey.) Maybe I should take him up on his offer of cash flow forecasting to avoid such nasty surprises in the future!

I would have no hesitation in recommending Mike to other entrepreneurs and small business owners, whether sole traders like myself or directors of a limited company. He knows his stuff and I appreciated his calm and helpful approach.
