Holy moly.

Buying my first house, I was warned with knowing smirks by everybody who had gone through the whole sorry enterprise "Ah, just you wait til you have to deal with solicitors, they hold EVERYTHING up."

So it was with some trepidation that I contacted Large & Gibson - even though I saw some extraordinarily positive reviews for them that quelled a few of my fears. I wondered if maybe some of those reviews may have been given under duress, they were so positive. But Holy moly, how wrong I was.

We had the pleasure of being allocated to one Daniel Deathers, solicitor at Large. He managed our purchase with such speed, efficiency, and legal incision - that at almost every turn it was ME that was holding things up. And I usually get things done very quickly - just ask my wife.

Now to give some indication of speediness (your experience may differ, please do not go into this demanding such rapid response times) - the majority of our simple emails, Daniel responded to within the hour during work hours. And for the larger actual conveyancing work, this was actioned by L&G within about 1-2 working weeks (not accounting for 3rd party waiting times obviously).

I also note that we were under very tight timescales to complete before the Stamp Duty rise. Without making any promises, Daniel actioned everything on our end at pace - AND he did an exemplary job of chasing down slower solicitors within the chain. As such, he saved us an absolute bomb.

Aside from this, Daniel guided us through the labyrinth of home purchasing, answering each of our panicky questions with clarity and professionalism and the patience of Job.

I can also commend other members of the Large & Gibson team. When we had to deliver physical copies of documents, the reception staff were extremely friendly and - again - professional. I also spoke to Leslie on a few occasions, and she displayed the very same efficiency and incision as Daniel.

In conclusion, Large & Gibson really do live up to their strong reputation. If you are planning a home purchase, I implore you to instruct this small, local business - and not one of the many faceless enormous legal firms who will invariably screw up proceedings. L&G's service was extremely good value for money. Stop scrolling reviews and just instruct them now. Holy moly.

A small but challenging chain, I firmly believe that if it wasn't for their professionalism, knowledge and experience we would have lost our purchase.

Stacey and Tammie managed our flat purchase, a leasehold in London on the back of a referral. Thoroughly impressed by their attention to detail, transparency and also practical advice throughout. We were first time buyers and it did feel like having someone with your interests at heart in your corner. They knew when to push back on certain aspects but also clearly acted in-line with some time pressures. They were always available for a call or otherwise responsive via email.

We did the sale purely remotely and everything was handled via post, and this presented no issues either.
