Spinal outpatients/orthopaedic; Had to have 3 MRI’s because the time lapsed between the mri and being offered a follow up was too long and the mri out of date. Trying to get hold of someone on the phone proved impossible, appointments with different registrars each time who knew nothing about me and promised things that didn’t happen. Their clinical letters were inaccurate and it was clear they had not listened to me.
I didn’t think it could get any worse until my appointment yesterday after waiting since October. Immediately on arrival we were faced with a stressed receptionist who was angry about the phone ringing. In the waiting room (around 10 people squashed into a tiny room-unsafe for already sick people) people were chatting to each other about their bad experiences in the department.
It had been suggested to me by admin on the phone that due to seeing all the various registrars and not getting anywhere it might be best if I saw the consultant, and my appointment letter said just that however I was taken in to see another registrar, with another one sat in the room too. When I asked what his involvement would be, he shook his head, stood up and walked out.
I politely said that I needed to see who I was supposed to see and suddenly he became available and saw me. His manner was shocking. He was telling us we were shouting and screaming-we were doing nothing of the sort. I told him that I was not interested in talking about waiting times and my concerns, that I could take that elsewhere if I needed to, and at that point he said I was accusing him of something No idea what he was talking about and he wouldn’t elaborate. I just wanted to discuss my spinal probs but out of nowhere he kept threatening to ‘close this down’ and repeatedly pressured me to see someone else. He did that around 5 times throughout the appointment I ended up having to beg him to continue the appointment because I was so desperate to get treatment. His nature was passive-aggressive, staring me down and laughing inappropriately.
I have never experienced anything like this, I wonder if he would have spoken to me like this had I been a private patient.

My wife was told she may have a potential blood clot by MAU but due to her only being 12 weeks pregnant she has had to go to A&E and has been there for 14 hours and has been awake now for 24 hours. That is horrible for a pregnant lady to have to do with barely any good food besides crisps and pop only available. This is ridiculous the wait times are horrible

I had a really rough time in the emergency department at UHNM. I was brought in by ambulance because I was dealing with severe vertigo and felt really sick. The ambulance crew was fantastic and took great care of me, especially since I was struggling to stay on my feet. Once I got inside, they took my vitals, but when the triage nurse came to check on me, I was in no shape to talk, so I just mumbled. After my vitals were taken, one of the healthcare assistants put me in a wheelchair and left me in the corridor without much communication. I ended up getting sick right there. I pleaded with the triage nurse to let me lie down instead of sitting, but she was really rude to both me and my husband. They told me I was sixth in line at 9 PM, and every time I asked for an update, they just repeated that I was still sixth. I finally saw a doctor the next morning at 9 AM. Waiting in that corridor was unbearable. As a Band 6 staff nurse at this hospital, I was in tears, feeling like I needed care myself because my health was failing me. Lying on a metal chair in the cold made me question my passion for nursing. It’s not just heart attacks and strokes that need urgent attention; people like me, who are physically exhausted, deserve some care too. I was so unwell that I was rolling out of the chair and vomiting, yet it felt like no one cared. This system really needs to be looked at. As a qualified nurse, I understand how busy things can get, so I never try to play the victim. I genuinely needed help, but that nurse made me rethink what patient care .
Your smile can really lift a patient's spirits. However, the way the receptionist spoke to us was just not okay. In my 20 years of nursing, I've never encountered anything like this before.

Recent stay in hospital and have to say the care was fantastic. Every nurse and doctor was compassionate and supportive and couldn't do enough. Special mention to ward 111 for their support, fantastic.

Recently moved to area and required treatment for spine, needing disc replacement to cervical vertebrae of spine. The consultant Mr Kandula was an incredible person showing compassion, clear explanation about what and how he would proceed. The inpatient care was faultless. I was worried due to the state of our NHS, but I was overwhelmed withe the quality of care. Thank you to all x

My husband came to a and e at Stoke hospital on a 999 call but advised to make own way because we could wait up to 12 hours for an ambulance and after waiting 6 and half to 7 hours waiting time we were finally then seen by a doctor.
The initial triage was done by a nurse in cubical one and she did no vitals and was not at all concerned that he could not move etc. And he was in severe back pain. No temperature no bp no nothing. I was struggling with the wheelchair and basically looked at her for help but she said something like don't look at me because I have a bad shoulder. In that time we waited nobody offered any pain relief etc. When I noticed how flushed my husband was or the fact his feet were swollen still we get told we have to wait then I ask a nurse then I ask a doctor still we have to wait in the queue. My husband has now been admitted to hospital since New Years Eve and they did not think to check his urine or take bloods or temperature because he has an infection amongst other ailments. I know the staff are busy but if he had been triaged properly at the beginning maybe, just maybe, his ailments he has now would not have escalated. I have now lost any faith in Stoke Hospital sadly.

I would prefer rather had died than wait how long I waited, I waited over 13 hours just to see a doctor. Serious waste of my time, I came in at 10pm and they told me to wait until 9am the next day or leave and have to wait again It’s the fact that I didn’t get seen until the afternoon so obviously the 9am was a BIG lie. after finally being seen I was dismissed under 40 minutes so your telling me you couldn’t have seen me earlier and sent me home? next time I will just suffer in pain and stay in the comfort of my home because it’s more better than staying in a horrid place like that. when I asked for a blanket I wasn’t given one? how inconsiderate knowing I would be spending hours upon hours lying on the cold & hard metal chairs and you call yourself a hospital worse a&e I’ve ever been honest don’t waste your time if ur not bleeding out dying they won’t take you seriously at all the would rather watch you suffer in pain hours upon hours of seeing you & threaten to remove ur name for wanting to leave horrible honestly… i don’t recommend like I said i would rather die and I won’t be going for any emergencies as well even if anyone recommends the a&e they are useless.

My daughter had a tonsillectomy yesterday, today I thought she had an infection. We were seen by a triage in under 10 mins and an ent surgeon in under two hours. All staff were friendly and amazing. Thankyou Royal stoke
