Stellar Tax has offered me nothing but bad communication and an unprofessional service. They have ignored my emails for the past 7 months despite my stating concerns and fears that my 18/19 tax return was late. I didn't receive any charges from HMRC, however during this time they didn't make that clear. When they finally replied, they dismissed all my previous questions and apologised. Then sent numerous amounts of physical mail to my British address, despite me telling them I work remotely in Spain and to please use email. They tried to blame the lateness on my lack of sending the documentation they needed. The documents they needed where in one of the emails they had ignored, sent 6 months prior. Ewan is a very unclear communicator, doesn't answer questions and uses physical mail with accountant jargon. As a freelancer in her first year of trade and earning way under the tax bracket, I only really needed my self assessment done. But Stellar Tax treated me as if I were business earning much more than I was. Which meant I paid a lot of fees for accounting costs that I really didn't need. It took my new accountant and I, 2 hours to complete my 6 month late tax return using the same bookkeeping spreadsheet I filled out for Stellar Tax. They wanted to charge me over £180 for bookkeeping fees for making corrections to the same spreadsheet. They never informed me of the extra charges until the invoice. Make sure you read the engagement letter and understand exactly what you need before you use this company, and ask for quotations first. If I hadn't disengaged I would have been given an invoice of over £600 for my 7 month late 18/19 tax return, and my 19/20 tax return. Not to mention all the fees I've already paid.
