The choice of MTD-compliant solutions available is overwhelming, but I was lucky enough to come across Tax Optimiser fairly quickly. It’s an online ‘bridging’ service that allows VAT returns to submitted to HMRC in an MTD-compliant way using figures from your existing accounts programme or, indeed, any source provided you’re able to enter them into an Excel or CSV format file. A range of templates is available to cover most popular accounting programmes, but Tax Optimiser provides excellent support if you need help setting this up. It’s a little rough around the edges in places, but the portal appears stable and robust. It’s very straightforward to use and actually simplifies the VAT return submission procedure if you’re used to using copy and paste to enter the figures manually on HMRC’s Gateway site. This saving alone is enough to cover the cost of Tax Optimiser’s small annual fee, but if you’re one of the many small businesses for whom the available MTD accounting ‘solutions’ are over-complex and prohibitively expensive, Tax Optimiser is a life-saver!

Having spent many hours deliberating a suitable, easy to use MTD software in order to submit my VAT returns in the required format by HMRC; I spotted Tax Optimiser (also recommended on an Accountancy Forum). I was instantly impressed with the look of the site and the instant chat that popped up. Any concerns and questions on compatibility were quickly and efficiently answered so I decided to sign up. Having used other software on a trial basis and not been happy I was so relieved to find this software just makes so much sense. So easy to operate and a quick set-up. The sign-up was slick and straight forward and the video help walked me through how to upload my VAT details ready for submission.

I've seen and used other tools and this beats them hands-down for simplicity - recommended!

This is a great little tool and once you get the initial set up right very simple to use. No bugs which is more than be said for Sage's costly offering. Simply print the VAT report to file, select .xlsx and save. Then log in to your account select the current payment period and drag and drop the saved file onto the landing pad. Check the numbers, press go, and you are done. Easy.

I have been trying to use QuickBooks to submit my first VAT MD return for 3 days now. It is so so slow to import 1000s of sales. We are a restaurant and keep all our info on Clover and export spreadsheets. We do not need 99.99% of QB functionality. I found this software by chance from a Moneybox blog and made my return in less than 10mins. Very straight forward site to use. Process was more or less unchanged over what we have been doing for the past +20 years to HMRC.

This platform is excellent- very easy to use & perfect for anyone who runs a system that has no MTD compatibility, and anyone who has to build their VAT reporting on excel prior to submission. I have found it a life saver. I would totally recommend this for all VAT MTD.
